moving out to australia need advice.

Hello to all . I am moving to the gold coast area in the new year. I am a soap maker in the UK and wish to continue with my little venture once in Australia. I have checked with many websites and just confused with the chemical part of registration which is very very expensive. Do i only need the NICNAS registration which is much more reasonable to sell soap in Australia?..Very confused what I need at this stage and any help would be very much appreciated

I live in the US so I'm of no help with your question, but we have a goodly handfull of Aussie soapers. Hopefully some will chime in soon.

Welcome.
You'll love how much easier it is to sell in AU compared to the UK.
The main governing body for soap is NICNAS & yes as far as I know is the only place you need to register if you intend to sell.
From there I'd imagine you'll need to look into what ingredients are allowed in cosmetics in AU, labelling, weights & measures.
ACCC is handy, trade weights & measures ( VERY important if you label with weights, they have articles on there about dissipating products).
Dept of fair trading for name registrating & trade approved scale registration.
Thinking thinking...its early in the morning for me...lol.
Defintely don't feel any part of overwelmed its VERY easy here in AU.

Depending on where you are going to sell you will need public liablity insurance as well.

NicNas fees are around $400 per year and you'll need Product Liability Insurance and Public Liability most likely if you sell from home or markets. You need to check with local council to see if it's ok to run business from home. :wink: See link below at Aussie Soap Supplies for information.
