I tried a beer soap this weekend. I scented it with Kumquat and it's the perfect citrus scent! I love the color too.

My next one is my first attempt at a salt bar. I was so scared about cutting it so I bought a new mold.
I used the six cavity mold from southern garden scents. The bars just popped right out! I also put these in the oven and the mold handled it like a charm.
I used the recipe from the soap-making-essentials website, minus the grated soap, and substituted sunflower oil for the grapeseed oil.

Scented with sweetgrass. Very fresh and relaxing.

You used my dh favorite beer...he loved that pic lol
Your salt bars don't even look like salt bars! They look fabulous! How much salt did you use?
Your pictures is great too! Way to go!

 !!! I found the beer in the back of the fridge and I don't drink beer so why not make soap with it? I do love my wine though!

The salt bars are the smoothest bars of soap I've ever made. I'm in love with them. I used 10 oz of oil and 8 oz of salt, so 80%. The bottoms are a little rough and show the salt a little more, but the mold seemed to smooth everything. Plus I did CPOP and had them in the oven for an hour. 30 min with heat and 30 min without. Then I put them on the counter to cool and popped them out an hour or so later!

Your soap is gorgeous Milla , the beer soap looks so smooth , I love the shape and color of the salt bars. How much do they weigh? You can scrub the rough spots on the salt bars with a piece of pantyhose , it makes them nice and smooth.

Kitn,

Kitn,

Thanks Kitn!

Good to know about the pantyhose. I will have to try it. The bars weigh about 6 oz right now. I also just filled one mold part way and that weighs 4.3 oz. It still looks good too, not like a partly filled mold.

Oh and I went to the quilting section at Hancock Fabrics and bought a plastic work surface sheet and lined my mold with this. Soap came right off. I think Heartsong recommended this in another thread, but mine wasn't for stencils. Easy cleanup too. Just wiped it off and my soap sides were super smooth.

One more thing...I froze my beer after I boiled it to remove carbonation. I read that CO2 is insoluble in ice. This was for pop, but it said to either heat it for awhile or freeze several times to remove CO2. The beer still foamed, but I knew it was flat. No reaction from the lye whatsoever.

It took me forever to learn that I like 80% much better than 100%. I also use a finer salt (diamond brand, I think). your soaps, still, are smoother looking than mine.

did you use the molds from Tony's for your salt bars? I have bunches but am afraid to put them in the oven (hell I should just sell them). I got them for salt bars, though - so I should brave up!

Yep, those are the molds. I sprayed them with PAM, but not sure if I need to.

The oven doesn't even phase them. they are extremely sturdy. I was thinking of swirling in them too! I don't know much about them. I just put some of my swirl soap in there to see if it pops out tomorrow. We shall see!

I love those molds. They pop right out and work great in the oven. I even emailed the company and slobbered all over them. You don't need Pam.

Great looking soaps, Milla!

I just made salt bars like you did. They look exactly like yours except yellow with a tiny green swirl (lemon verbena). Isn't it bizarre how smooth they get?!
