So basically you can use anything that will hold the soap? You just get the shape you get? The cardboard makes me nervous that the soap would soak thru, or it would soak up the oils? No??

Just make sure it's not anything reactive like aluminum or non-stick.....the free alkali in the raw soap batter eats them.

so non-stick is a big "no no"?? Has anyone done this and had it go bad? What about all your crock potters? They are non-stick arn't they? Do you guys have a problem? What's the difference? I found an awesome pan I want to try but it's non-stick and I"m scared.......

I did a batch of unscented yesterday in my non-stick loaf pan. I wasn't too concerned about perfectly square since I was making it for chunks to add to another batch. I lined it with parchment paper and it popped right out. The pan isn't damaged at all.
Regarding the crock pots: mine both have ceramic cooking pots. I think most crock pots are made of ceramic.

I have used plastic containers purchased at Wal-mart. They are the starfrit Lock & Lock. I like the size of bars that come out. It holds about 1.5# of soap.

So what do you guys think of this?? If I spray it with PAM will it work? Or will the non-stick cause a problem??

Just as another makeshift mold option, the lightwieght wood (I think they're balsa maybe?) photo/keepsake boxes from the craft store are cheap and work well.

They look like this:

and I used quilters' mylar to line it:

Whole thing, mylar and all, was under $10 from the craft store and has lasted through a lot of batches so far.

Don't forget about lining a cardboard box with bubble wrap

Cruise auctions, garage sales, and estate sales looking for old, beat up chests of drawers that nobody wants. If the drawers are the right size and solid, keep them and get rid of the rest.

Line with freezer paper and you're all set!

you can use any kind of silicone baking things, or candy molds, or michaels has some cheap plastic molds, that would for hp, not sure about cp.

Has anyone tried the all hinged wooden mold? That looks like it would be very easy to use.

I'm currently in the process of designing my wooden box mould and seperate mitre cutter box - I realised that it is actually easy to "build" and I have mastered Jigsaw-xterity by lots of practise over the weekend. I am going to get a "castings guy" to custom fit a liner for the box mould, and the last of my great ambitions is to custom build a grid shaped cutting tool that will sorta mitre in the box in a grid pattern! Maybe I am too much of a dreamer!
