I wouldn't think it would need to be that specific. Any olive oil would probably be fine, I'd imagine.

this is the recipe....
To make a 4 pound batch

12oz Coconut Oil
19oz of mid grade Olive Oil (not virgin, not pomace)
12oz Caster Oil
6oz Lye
13oz distilled water
1/2oz rosemary oil (not to be used if expectant lady using product replace with essential oil of choice)

Observing usual soap making precautions.

Especially melting oils, mixing water&Lye (this is a fairly large batch)
Combine Oils and Lye @ 100 F. Stirring constantly (avoid splashing) till trace, add essential oil(rosemary, etc) stir in then pour into mold, lined with saran wrap or Vaseline. Insulate for 24 hours. Uncover & leave in mold until soap is hard enough to take out.(usually 4-6 days)When hard enough cut into bars, then cure for 4-5 weeks.

So, when I googled mid grade olive oil I found it at one place but it was 38.00 for 16oz. .... I know there has to be some place cheaper than that .
I thought just the regular olive oil would work also, but, I just want to be on the safe side and possibly get what it asks for.

If you go to Costco and buy the 5 liter bottle of olive oil ($22.00), I think it's Bertolli''s, that DOE NOT say virgin or extra virgin on it, I think you'll have it. It's grade A if you order from a supplier online.

Wholesale Supplies Plus. $21/gal + frt for Refined A.

I get mine at Wal-Mart and it's labeled as "Pure Olive Oil". Like others have said, just make sure it doesn't say "Extra Virgin" or "Pomace".

I've read tons of posts and threads where people say the mid-grade level performs the best in CP soap. That's all I've used and it's been great. And my Castile bars I made with it came out really white. So I don't see why that wouldn't cross over to shampoo as well.

Let us know how it turns out.

I second the Costco olive oil , if you have one near you . Having said that I am thinking any olive oil would do except the ones specified not to in the recipe.

If you look at the numbers on soapcalc for olive oil and olive pomace they are almost the same. Other than the color it may leave your soap I don't think there is much of a difference.
