After being tied up do so many things, and even starting a new project tomorrow, I made some soap tonight!

Here is the recipe I found on the net:

CREAMY CASTILE SOAP

16 oz water
6 oz lye
16 oz Olive Oil
8 oz coconut oil
17.5 oz Crisco Shortening

Using a stick blender I had trace in less than 5 minutes. It thickened up pretty quick. Poured into box mold lined with trash bag plastic. Put 3 wooden skewers on top and then a towel.

I guess I remove from mold in 24 hours and slice using gloves. Then air dry for 4 to 6 weeks. The soap is already hardened up when I slightly pressed the sides of the box in.

How can I tell when they are ready to be used? What can I expect from this recipe? At least a decent soap? My wife is afraid to try the soap because of the lye factor. I tried to explain it to her. She wants me to use it for a week and see what happens to me first. :D

First Soap

Dear Jay,
I ran the formula through SoapCalc and it looks all good. Tell your wife not to worry. The lye will neutralise within the week and you will be able to use it with-in 6 weeks [you will be waiting for the water in the bar to reduce and the soap to become hard] This makes it last longer in the shower. Cut in 24 hours. Don't worry so much. I have included this link to SoapCalc. We all had to learn and it becomes very rewarding and addictive.

I'm a man and my wife is hesitant. :D

Tell her to lick the soap ( zap test ) if it doesn't "zap" then there is no lye!

Congrats in your first batch and welcome to the totally addicting world if soaping! :D

ya, this is really addictive indeed....i've like 30 bars sitting on my "curing rack" in less than a month lol

I tried sth like youre recipe and i just loved it, i added some oatmeal for it light exfoliate effect and i'll say they're perfect match ~~

Yes, I find that I get all kind of reactions when people find out I use homemade soap.

Does it burn? Will it clean? What do you do with it?

Except for my parents, who don't want to try it because they are sure that homemade soap can't get them clean. my family has come to really like my soap.
