I just posted about the tiniest of a lye burn I got on my foot 6 months ago still has a red mark on my foot. I would definitely have a doctor look at as it may scar your eye.

Now I’m seriously considering buying myself a pair of googles... 🧐

I wear glasses so goggles don't work for me, but I bought a set of Clear Safety Glasses at Home Depot for $10. They are large enough to fit over most frames, very light, and don't press into your glasses. I keep them in the pocket of my soaping apron so I don't forget them.

Another option for people who wear glasses would be the plastic face shields worn by dental and medical workers. I wear these when I’m shopping, bc I can’t wear masks due to asthma.

The ones with the elastic band at the top give more protection, but the one with frames like glasses, which easily sit over your glasses, are more comfortable. I’ve been wearing mine while soaping and appreciate the whole-face coverage.

ETA: these are the ones I purchased: Face Shield.

I wear these with my reading glasses and it's fine.

These are fine for splashes that come straight into the face, but some splashes can hit the crown of the head and then drip down into the face and eyes. A chemical face shield that curves over the top of the head is designed to give better protection against this type of splash.

Agreed, and even the ones with the plastic band around the top (as opposed to the pseudo-glasses version) provide a better seal against those kinds of splashes, as well.

@josianeg Please get eye protection. I wear goggles if there's any chance of lye or raw soap batter getting into my eyes. Having worn contacts for the past 30 years, I know exactly how sensitive my eyes are and the thought of lye in my eye is the stuff of nightmares.

Hi!

I have eye protection, but the wear over your glasses kind of protective glasses.

The thing is have myopia so bad that I absolutely need to wear my glasses in order to see what I’m doing...

I looked a bit on Amazon Canada and even if some products claim they fit over glasses, reviews say they don’t. Can anyone recommend a type of goggles that I can wear over my glasses? The frame isn’t huge, but not very little either.

Can you give me a link so I can have an idea of what that looks like? I can’t figure it in my head.

I can't help you, because I never found any that fit over my reading glasses. I tried several. And I also wear hearing aids so that makes it even harder to find anything that has to go over my ears. A person can tolerate only so much stuff over top of their ears!

But here is a link to a face shield that has splash protection that shows it worn over glasses and it looks like it has plenty of clearance:

I can't tell if it's available in Canada or not, but I bought this:
https://www.amazon.com/SolidWork-un...I&pd_rd_i=B07QKKX9VF&ref_=pd_bap_m_rp_1_12_scIt works over my glasses and my mom's glasses, and I like that it has an elastic strap instead of putting pressure on or behind my ears, and I like the silicone seal.

I was making soap late at night I was tired and a little drop of lye splashed up underneath my protective eyewear and went into the corner of my eye I have been rinsing for about 15 minutes now I'm a little concerned because it still hurts. Any one experienced this situation?

I've gotten some soap batter (still lye heavy) that splashed around my eye. It just took some time for the irritation to stop. Poison control is probably a safe call, good luck!
