All my lotions have been with the recipe in the Brambleberry lotion book using 75% liquid and they have been fine so far. I decided to use goat's milk and substituted that for the water. I've seen different posts of using 10-12% goat's milk and others saying just swap it all out. So that's what I did. I made a 22 oz batch of goat's milk lotion and used Phenonip at 1% for my preservative. Everything went smoothly during the making process but now the problem is that i think maybe the lotion went bad.

I put it in bottles and put them in my closet (cool and dark in there) for the last week. My husband was using it and was concerned that it smelled funny. Well, I think it smells like goats milk. I went to check the other bottles and when I opened one it hissed with air escaping. There are noticeable little bubbles you can see through the bottle and when I clicked open the top, a lot of lotion oozed out of it.

Still no bad smell, doesn't feel weird, and doesn't look weird aside from the bubbles in the bottle. Anyone else have had something like this happen? thanks a bunch!

I would throw it out. It sounds like it fermented and gone bad. I only use goat's milk in a small %. Milk has proteins which are much more difficult to preserve.

Yup, i dumped all the lotion. :( I'm sad that it didn't work out. We are going to try it again with a 10% mix and I'm going to send it out to a lab for testing. I'm really curious about how it does.

Thanks everyone!
