I don't know if this will make sense, but.....I just received my new log molds, and they're great. But I thought log molds were like bread molds, where the soap would be taller then wide. These are wider then tall, like the bread slice is laying on its side.

When surfing the web, I see soaps with layers and waves that are taller then wide. And the soap looks huge. Is that a special mold?

molds

i have no liner soap molds from ebay (no-liner-soap-molds) by mr. doright. though mine were a custom size, the standard are 3-1/2" wide and 2-1/4" inch deep. molds can be made to any size you desire.

what are you looking for? a square? someone mentioned that the tupperware velveeta 2 pound container makes a great mold. you might look in the plastic ware section of walmart for something similar.

molds are usually wider than they are tall for ease of removal from mold. except for square or round tube molds. they are a separate challenge there!

i have seen some of the soaps you a talking about, but don't have the site at hand. why dont you post the site and maybe one of us might have the answer.

it is my belief that these are specially made molds.

wish i could be of more help.

They come in all sizes. You probably needed to request the dimensions you wanted, or look for another mold that was the size you were looking for.

I don't know how to post the link, but if you go to "The Photo Gallery" forum here, and 3/4 way down is a post by Deda caled "On the rack". This will show you the difference in bars. On the left is (what I think) are log bars that "look taller, then wide". One the right is what looks like regular bars. I want to make log bars the size that are on the left.

doesn't deda make lovely soaps? sooooo pretty!

it may be that she has square molds-perhaps if sent her a "pm" (private message) she would be kind enough to answer your questions and perhaps direct you to a mold site.

What do you think of these molds heartsong? Worth buying? Does the soap release well? I've checked them out and they look pretty nice - nice price too! :D

I have looked at them several times too but they are pretty pricey.

the quality and personal service was outstanding! i spoke with him several times on the phone and email. his wife is a soaper too.

i plan to order more log molds and and a couple bar molds here in the near future.

i have made about 3 dozen batches now, and have a few hints.

remember please, everyone's soap recipe is different-and may have different results.

they work perfectly with a hard gel and i stick them in the oven. i always cut a piece of wax paper and place at the bottom of the mold. i litely grease the sides with petroleum jelly or crisco. as soon as they begin to pull away from the sides they are ready to come out. usually 24-48 hrs.

for non gel soaps (no heat) i find them "gooeyer"-is that a word?- and it takes longer to get out of the mold. i place wax paper in the bottom and then a finer layer of jelly or crisco, then lay over a strip of wax paper on the sides the depth of the soap. the crisco holds the wax paper in place and the it is very simple to pop the soap out once it hardens.

easy-peasy! i love my molds!

one other thing-the adjustable soap slicer is great! the only thing i did was take the cutting blade that was included down to the lawnmower shop and had them give it a sharp edge-now it cuts thru soap like butter!

i have two of his molds too and a cutter. i used to do melt and pour and they would pop right off...NO PROBLEM. i love them, but i haven't used them for cp soap yet.
