During my second batch of liquid soap a thick layer of foam developed. No matter how long I heated the batch, gently folded, added more water, KOH or oil, the layer persisted. I turned off the crock pot and let the batter sit overnight. Next day, the layer was still there, so I scooped it off and set it aside. The remaining liquid soap was transparent and fine.
But the foam persisted.
I tested sample portions with extra water, KOH and oils. No change. Having given up on converting the foam into a liquid, I whipped the foam, scooped it into a cake pan. It sat for a couple of weeks, remaining soft, like whipped butter. It looks like buttercream. I can't handle that appearance. I'll want to eat the whipped soap foam or make real buttercream frosting and eat it.
Someone in this forum suggested using rubbing alcohol to decrease the foam. I tried 70%. It worked! Surprisingly, it took about an hour for the foam to dissolve back into liquid soap.
Question: Does anyone know what could the excessive foam in the first place?
