Just unmolded the goats - another color change; see end....

Brown goats are no more! what a surprise! see my last entry on page 2.

Made GM soap 3 days ago; unmolded one tray next day...they were creamy white at first.

Today, I unmolded the remaining 6 trays, and you can see the difference in colors.
I scented with sandalwood fo from New Directions Aromatics. It colors the soap to tan, and deeper tan each day. Next time I will make unscented, I prefer white goats.

The bottom two were the ones I unmolded first, the top three, just this morning. Can you see the difference in color? I hope they don't darken much more than this.

White, tan, or brown I think they're adorable!

I know it wasn't your artistic vision (I get the same when MP doesn't turn out), but even if it didn't quite match what you wanted they're great. Just tell people you meant to do that and nobody would ever know.

I love sandalwood as well...I never noticed a color change in mine, but I'm using sandalwood FO from Save on Scents. It's incredibly potent, but a bit sweeter than I'd like, so I'm going to try to find something a bit more woody the next time.

I think they turned out great.... you may have been going for a lighter color but the tan ones are very pretty.

The darker ones are stunning!!! If you check out my farm website, your darker soaps look just like my brown Nubian doeling Love it!

It would be super cool if you could make a lighter soap in just the ears, and then a darker soap in the rest of the mold. lol, I'm just a sucker for goats with silver ears

Cherrygardengirl: I did check out your goats - they are so adorable! I love watching goats, there's a farm on the next road.. I find goats an endless source of amusement, and they are a joy to my neighbour, who treats them like her children. (except for most of the boys, which end up in her freezer :shock: )

I might just try your suggestion next time, and attempt white ears, hehe....could be a challenge to make two separate batches at the same time...get them into molds. I like challenges!

They look just fine to me! My Nubian is black with frosted ears - wonder how you'd do that?

Wish I could find some molds with Swiss-eared goats. :? You'd think by the molds available that Nubians are the only goats that produce milk!

I've seen those molds someplace before but they didn't look as kool in white as they do tan. The details show up better in yours.

Hmmmmm, I wonder if you just made one batch, and just before you add your fragrance, you separate out in another container, enough batter to fill the ear area, then put your fragrance in the remainder and use that for the head and chest. You might need to put paper barriers up to keep the two batters separated until fully poured. You also may need someone to assist the pour by holding the barriers in place. Once the mold is filled, pull the barriers. In my head, the ears would stay white....but then again there's reality, which may turn out completely different

Anyway, they look kool, like chocolate goats milk!

These are Milky Way Molds. I ordered online, but shipping from the USA to here is ridiculously expensive. I often have to pay a 'border-crossing fee', usually $25, plus Cdn taxes....I don't order often, and if I do....I try to make it a bigger order. One time I bought a single Buddha mold, which cost $25. With extra fees and shipping, it was more than double that. For ONE MOLD!...with 3 cavities. I call it my Gold Mold.

YEP! and it's the best way to buy molds. I bought 4 single molds at 7.50 each....later I found the same mold on a 4 cavity sheet for the same price. I bought 10 of those. I can make 44 bars from a single batch now. and the molds cost a total of 112.50. Had I purchsed 44 molds at the original price, it would have cost me 330.00!

If you find a single mold that you like, do a google search on it's name. Pretty much guaranteed that someone will have it (or better), for a lower price.

+1 madartist. My favorite is a three cavity rose, three 5 ounce rose molds on one plastic sheet. It's a rapid-fire way to use up almost a pound, but you do get three beautiful bars out of it.

Canwax carries Milky Way molds - I know they have that one. I got a really cute one from Saphire Blue. It's a Milky Way mold too, shows a doe nursing a kid, and says "goat's milk" on it. Both companies are in Ontario. Canwax is now up in Bracebridge, and Saphire Blue is down near Tillsonburg (which is driving distance for me). Prices are more like $8.95 (I think :roll: ) plus shipping.

I just checked on my goaties, next day and.....surprise! They are turning back to cream, even with a tinge of pink = no more brown goats! I've never seen this happen before.
This was a new bottle of sandalwood fo from ND. I was just getting used to the browns...oh well - interesting!
