I am still so new that I have no idea what "good" numbers are when you use SoapCal. How does this recipe look? Please suggested changes are welcome!

That much palm oil may move very quickly on you. I personally don't like palm it can be a real pain. I would definitely soap warm so you don't get stearic spots or false trace.

Is that for any recipe or just this particular one? I've used 25% Palm in other recipes and been fine but I have used a few different oils than this recipe.

i love palm (have it in almost all of my recipes), and have used it for much more than 25% (usually 30-50%). i also soap RT. i can still do swirls and complicated techniques which require a lot of time. the key is only to bring it to emulsification (one stage before thin trace), and start doing your colors, etc.

are you planning on doing complicated swirls with this particular recipe? if so, i reckon you'll have plenty of time, just go easy on the SB, and melt your palm completely to avoid stearic spots.

No, at most I was thinking of using TD for 1/2 the batter and AC on the other half. Maybe a in the bucket swirl or hanger swirl in the mold.

then you'll have plenty of time me thinks. just go easy on the sb, bring it to emulsification and start separating your colors, etc. you can always sb again afterwards.

Thank you!

I too use palm at 25% and RT and have usually have plenty of time to do my swirls or other techniques. I would up the CO a bit too for more bubbles. I like between 20-25% with a 7% SF and makes a non-drying soap. Your recipe is very similar to one of mine.

If I up the CO to 25%, what oil would you reduce 5% from?

So I used the recipe I posted in this thread and I am very happy with the way this soap came out. I still can't get the hang of swirls of any kind but I think it looks decent and I'm thrilled a recipe I kind of made up worked out. I used TD for the bottom layer, apparently not enough b/c its not white and AC for the top, again apparently not enough b/c its a grey color instead of black.
The only problem I ran into is the top, I sprayed it with alcohol like normal and then covered but per the advice of someone I sprayed it another time or two through the first 3-4 hours after pouring and I think I sprayed too much b/c you can see the marks the water made on the top. Plus the plastic dropped down in the middle so I had to cut the top off one of the soaps.
