I made a batch of soap 50 % coconut 25% of soy and castor 2 oz of hibiscus power a cup of frankincense roughly broke up. I steeped my oils and frankincense for about an hour and then started my soap process it traced super fast and i put in in my molds and covered it . It stay in the mold about 28 hours due to my work schdule. when i uncovered it it was like covered in oil/glycerine/resin or something. I have no idea what it was its never happened before. Has this ever happened to anyone else?

Am I correct in thinking you used 25% Castor oil in your recipe. If so, that is a lot of Castor oil. The most I have heard of using is 10%.

Did it separate into an oily layer on top of a semi solid mass?
Agree with LSG, that's a lot of Castor...
If you're looking to use Frankincense, you'd be better off using the resin EO, or if you can find the resin powder that's fine enough and adding it at trace...it may still be a bit scratchy though.

it didnt really seperate into to separate layers it was just a normal bar on the bottom with liquid on top. Where i live its really common to see 100% castor oil soaps

Yikes, where do you live? I've never seen that either, and would agree with others that your castor oil percentage seems high. I also found hibiscus powder to be scratchy. Are you using an infusion of hibiscus powder and frankincense or the raw materials themselves?

Yeah, that sounds like separation...you'll have to rebatch it to save it.
Where do you live that they make 100% Castor Oil soaps? It's certainly possible to do...

I live in Virginia and it is very common. Nothing is wrong with the recipe without the frankincense and hibiscus because my other bars came out beautifully.

Your botanicals may have put it into a false trace which would lead to the separation.... Your recipe sounds fascinating....

Do you have a picture so we can see what happened?

I have seen commercial soap made by Heritage Products sold as castor oil soap but when looking at the ingredients I see "Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Castor Oil, and Potash". This one is made in Virginia Beach Virgina and states it is a moisturizing bar:
[FONT=&quot]Clean for your body and environment. Comfort and cleanse your skin with soothing castor Oil Soap. This healing bar is handmade according to a special moisturizing formula of plant oils to deeply nourish your skin.

Sounds to me like this company is making claims that could cause them a few problems if the FDA saw this since they are calling it a "healing bar" and "special moisturizing formula".... Nor would I call this a castor oil soap since the other 2 ingredients are listed first and castor should be the lowest amount in it.

(edited because it looks like my paste made a mess of things)
