I am so disgusted! Can't get a nice square bar to save my..

Life! The perfectionist in me wants a perfect (well almost) 2 x 1 x 3 1/2 bar and I can't get anything to cut square. I bought a mold with slots and a cutting blade. The blade bends and won't cut straight. I've tried knifes. My husband made a cutting box and still, I can't get a nice square bar.


Short of buying an expensive planer / cutter, I don't know what to do. Can you recommend something?

I couldn't cut straight and even though I was a hobby soaper back then I invested in a Tank - for peace of mind!

Safire: don't feel bad about it. I see the bars the more experienced soapmakers make, and sometimes I get green with envy! :wink:
Especially me, being "Mr precision", and finding that, on every batch, less than 10% of the bars are anything close to straight, let alone square.
I'm as new to soapmaking as you are, and, so far, I find cutting the bars is by far the most challenging part of the whole process. I'd recommend you to have patience, and keep trying. Sooner or later, we'll both get it.

The tank is a soap cutter that is built like a brick $%!& house , hence the name the tank , costs about $300.00 and up .

Yep. That was about what I was thinking when I started reading your reply. In my case, it wouldn't be a Jaguar, but we're on the same page anyways...

Besides, imagine how many different EOs you can buy with $300...

It is basically a soap cutter, but it has wires, and you can cut a whole loaf of soap into even sized bars with one fell swoop.
End result: evenly straight cut bars. If you google it I'm sure you'll find some pics.
Who knows Inodoro, you might be able to come up with a way to replicate a tank, you are more than handy with your tools and some wood!

Ok, I just googled ""the tank" soap cutter", and I even saw a video of somebody using it. You're right, It's built like a fortress.
I'll see tomorrow if I can come with something alike.

Good on you Inodoro. Might be a good idea to fish around on here and ask any members if they have one, and what they like about it, how easy it is to use, etc. Might help you some in coming up with ideas on how to build one.

Well MRDORIGHT, 1st up,not everyone here is female-not a good assumption to make at all. 2nd,it isn't really a good idea to plow on in on yr what,3rd(?)post alienating people. And 3rd,carebear knows PLENTY.A lot of us here DON'T have mrdoright molds,because a few do,& we share our soaping experiences,good & bad. I find it a little strange you chose this particular thread to burst in upon-we were actually talking cutters,your molds had a very small mention.Check back thru the archives & you'll find some MUCH more interesting discussions.Perhaps if you did really want to help,you'd be listening to some of the concerns some folk have about your molds,not being aggressive & inflammatory.Although I hardly think a soapmaking DISCUSSION forum is the right situation for you to be 'on the sell'.

Carebear - i absolutely love ya. I don't post here anymore, but I'm still reading. You always stick to the point, and are a genious (as a few others are as well). I have never misinterpreted your explanations. And Thank You very much for all I have learned from you..
