I do really have the best DH around. He has supported my soap making by building me log molds, dealing with my crazy ideas on avoiding lining said molds, to building my work area. The last support: candle making. The DH is a beer snob so we have tons of beer bottles saved because he is going to start brewing. I bought a candle that was in a beer bottle and after looking at it I thought there had to be a way to do this at home. I tried the string and fire method and only managed one clean break. After some research I found some tutorials on bottle cutting jigs and showed him. Tada! This is what he built. So simple and works perfectly! Very nice. I have been working on cutting my empty whiskey bottles into pint glasses and cocktail glasses. I have been hand cutting the bottles and throwing more of them away from bad splits. I'm gonna have to try making one of these jigs.

That's pretty cool, kudos to him! When I was a kid my brothers used to cut the tops off of Schmidt Big Mouth bottles (like a current day Mickey's bottle) then glue "the mouth" to the bottom of the bottle to act as a stem or pedestal. That would make a cool candle too as long as you made it stable.

Thanks! This is just too cool and I need to make one for myself. I've been saving up bottles to do the old acetone and string thing, but this is so much better (not to mention safer). Has he ever tried a square bottle? I wonder if you can make it adjustable somehow, so that it will accommodated different sized bottles.

Unfortunately we don't have any square bottles so I don't know how well that will work.
