Hi everyone. I'm interested in making some of my own shave soap and was pointed here by some folks at the badger and blade forum.

I'm kindof a DIY person so designing and making things really piques my interest which is why I'm looking at making my own shaving soaps. Seems like you've got a good community here.

Are you familiar with hot process soap making in general? If not, have a good nose around the forums in general, especially the beginner section, to get a feel for soaping itself, too.

Thanks, I haven't seen that yet but I'll be sure to check it out, I'm familiar with CP and HP from my research but have not physically attempted them yet. I'm still researching everything out before I really jump in.

currently I'm mostly interested in tallow based shaving soaps too. but I'll likely be experimenting with non-tallow as well.

Have a look around, and read the epic thread about shaving soaps, lot of good stuff in there!

Since you are completely new to soapmaking, I would very strongly suggest that you start with a non-shaving soap recipe to learn the basic process. There is a big difference between reading about it and actually doing it. A simple HP soap with NaOH. We can suggest good starter recipes if you like.

Shaving soap, with a large amount of stearic acid, KOH (or a blend of KOH and NaOH) can be tricky even for experienced soapers, but not impossible.

Hi and Welcome. I agree with new12soap. I would start with a regular hp recipe before jumping on the shaving soap. It's a bit trickier to work with but can be done.

Welcome, Aloicious! I think it's wonderful that yet another wet shaver has decided to join the ranks of all the other wet shavers here who have self-titled themselves as the 'crazy wet shaving dudes'. I've learned so much from them. Through their advice, I have been able to improve upon the shave soap I make for my hubby.
