Hi! Is there any calculator that can tell me how much vitamin E should i add to make a soap that would otherwise get rancid fast , last long? I am interested in making soap with rapeseed oil and flax seed.

You don't need to add anything to your soap recipe. You should add either Vitamin E or ROE to your oils when you receive them. It will keep them fresher longer. I've never added either to my soap recipe.

Vitamin E will not keep your soap from going rancid. ROE would be a better option.
Vit. E works as an antioxidant in soap, so it will help keep the soap from going rancid. I have soap several years old that is still good. I do add Vit. E or rosemary oleoresin, whichever I have handy, to my base oils when they first arrive. I also 5-6 drops ppo of Vit E to each batch of soap. Vit. E is clear so it does not discolor the soap.

Do you use the same 5-6 drop PPO when your stock arrives?

What kind of Vitamin E do you use? Mine is a brownish color. I got some from a co-op and some from Natures Garden and they are both brownish. Thank you!

I don't measure it , I just pour in a little into each gallon of oil, cap the oil and shake well. I have gotten Vit. E from several places, Camden Grey and Brambleberry to name two. It may look brown in the bottle, but when in the dropper it is fairly clear.
