I use a lot of wax and honey in my soaps, I save the cappings wax for soap. As far as extracting, I was taught long ago to shake the frames over newspaper if it isn't capped - if it doesn't splatter on the newspaper, it's good to go. So far I've had no problems with it. No refractor, but I do have a nice Maxant extractor in the cellar, when hubby buys, he buys big! :)

I trying to put a picture as an attachment. My burnt honey soap looks funny from inside! I was trimming the edges of the other bar and noticed darker tone inside so I was tempted to cut one open. This is how it looks and the smell is funny too! Like asian food, sweet and nutty.

I'm going to bet that the interior will lighten up as it dries out. I've had a "rind" like this on my soap a few times -- the inside eventually turns the same color as the outside. Not sure what the half and half color is, however. That's outside my experience!
