Wow, those are gorgeous. How does she do that?

I have no idea. I tried to do it the way I thought it might be done, and well, it was a total disaster and looked horrible. LOL
I just admire other's stuff and do my own thing now. LOL

soap

Seriously..how do you DO that???

Seriously awesome.

I'm thinking the colors are going directly on the soap...rather than mixing them.....but that's just a guess...

I'm speechless...she's fantastic.

How's it done? Layers. And the top layer is the only one swirled. Pretty neato! She and her hubby are definitely artists! Gives us all something to aspire to. *sigh* She does a really neat job on beveling the edges too.

Yes layers, but how does she get the side by side colors and then the swirl just in the middle of that, without the colors bleeding into each other? That's more of the mystery that I'm curious about and tried to duplicate (ugh what a mess that was)
It's just amazing that #1 they can accomplish it and #2 that they can accomplish it on demand and consistently.
A-MAZE-ING!!!! lol

With... perhaps... some sort of dam system that divides the colors. You remove the dams and swirl away?

Soap porn

Okay, I have resisted the urge to create marbelized soap but those pics made me want to TRY IT RIGHT NOW!!!

She uses very intense colors. They're beautiful, but do you think the pigments she uses are safe? (I admit, I haven't thoroughly searched her site to find out.)

absolutely her materials are safe. she's quite savvy about that, and her husband is a fragrance chemist so they think about these things.

Yes she uses all skin safe colours and fragrances, I think I read on her blogsite something about her trying out a new fragrance her husband had developed? Even more impressive. And she wouldn't be selling her soaps (on etsy I think) if they didn't meet standards.
Also, from reading her blog, she has 2 or 3 little kids and another on the way!! The woman deserves a medal!!
I think she is amazing!! But I would also like to point out that I have seen just as amazing work on SMF from other soapers, this lady is just very clever with colour, that's why it sticks in your mind. I am not saying that to take anything away from how clever she is though.

nah, Mary has no kids though she's tryin'. She is a busy woman though - she's recently finished college and is interning at a museum.

She is extremely artistic and has developed a unique style for her soaps. There are many lovely styles that I've seen here as well, but this one screams MARY!

Sorry, I thought I read that she had the kids helping her or something.
Must have been someone else, I have been reading a few soapers blogs lately  Maybe I am sending some childbearing energy onto her!!
Carebear, it sounds like you know her. What are her tricks?

I was in a swap from another board and I got one of her soaps and I am still trying to figure out how she did it. It smells wonderful!

I am such an amateur, I think I need to cry!
Let me know what you think!!

Um sorry Mods, I posted this in the wrong section. Sorry I don't know how to change it, I meant to post it in the soap forum.
Thanks
Christine
that is SO crazy, cool soaps, now i want to go home today and try some swirls. i need black color though!

At first I thought you guys were a bunch of nutbars going on and on over the top about this ladies soap until I logged onto her site & had a look for myself.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's a sin to use her soap for washing!!!

Those bars belong in a glass case hanging on the the wall in the Smithsonian Institute!!!!!!

uh. you'd have to ask HER that. She's over at the Dish, or I guess you could contact her through Etsy

I joined over at the dish just so I could view the photo gallery and see some more of her work.
But seriously, I have no intentions of trying to copy her work, too hard for one thing, but she's worked hard to develop her own style that is recognizable as hers, so more power to her.
I think I am better off putting my energy into developing my own style rather than copy someone elses.
I still have serious soap envy though, I think she is an absolute magician. :D

I do occasionally attempt other peoples' work but it's almost impossible to maintain someone else's style so I had no fears of that :)

I copy for the fun of discovery. Then I either adapt, or abandon!

I think I will just admire from a far, gives me something to aspire too.
My hats off to her though, she has "branded" her own style, and she is so very good at it. I could never in a million years get close to what she has created, just not that artistic.
