Hi! I'm a real newbie to soapmaking. I've gotten to the point where the gifts I give my family and friends are all homemade. Nothing store bought. So my next project is soap. I belong to a crafting group and we were wondering if there was anyone in the Houston area that would be willing to teach us a soapmaking class. I'd really appreciate it!

Thanks! I'm looking forward to sharing with everyone and learning from all of you!

Hi Deidre

Welcome, there is plenty of info for you to read here to make your first soap. Good luck with finding a teacher in your area.

Hi Deidre!
That is exactly how I got started making soap! I made soap for 2 months in preparation for Christmas last year. I gifted about 100 bars of soap. I used all BB fragrances and used their lye and fragrance calculator. Most came out pretty good for a beginner. Also there are a lot of u tube videos out there with instructions. I also used a e book the Everything Soapmaking Book. It is addicting and fun.

Good luck on your first batch ! And welcome!

Deidre, I suggest watching the Soapqueen tutuorials on making cold process soap. She is very thorough. Soaping101 is another blog that has some good info. I also suggest starting with a small batch, 1 lb. was what I started with.
