Hi! Am new to soap making, have been in love with using homemade soaps for years. Figure its time for me to make what I love since its hard to find a supply thats all I wish for in fragrances. Have lurked for a few days on this site and have learned SOO much. Hopefully by the end of the month can save up and make my first batch. Can definitely seeing this becoming an addiction easy. But so much fun. Look forward to joining in.

Hiya NickJuly! Welcome to the group. Do you know which method of soapmaking you'll try first? I'm still a newbie but my one piece of advice is to start simple. It seems like almost every batch has something to learn from and when things don't go just right, you'll want to know why. And the less "extras" you have in there, the easier it is to pin down the problem. But good luck resisting adding those extras. hehe

Kep us posted on your adventures!

Thanks zeo! Am still researching things at this point, so very hard to choose a beginners recipe. Not sure I can not be tempted to add some fragrance. Don't mind waiting on color and swirls and stuff but not a fan or unscented soap. Also need to get some of the ingredients and equipment. Got a stockpot and coconut oil this week. Am researching a stick blender and characteristics of different oils so I make good choices.

But is so very hard to wait.

Oh sorry forgot to add and going to concentrate on cold process soap.

Oh...as long as you stick with a basic recipe, a little fragrance shouldn't be too bad. When I say "extras", there are people who will put all kinds of exotic things in their first batch. Stuff that even most advanced soapers don't use so there's not a good base of knowledge to judge how those ingredients will affect soap. And if things go wrong, nobody's ever really sure what the problem is. I think these are the people who are probably awesome cooks because they are always experimenting with a pinch of this and a dash of that. :D

But a little scent and color should be ok as long as you use the stuff that is safe for CP soap.

Have fun and keep us posted!
