My husband and I spent two years and more creating a soapmaking program, called SoapMaker....to answer questions just like this one.

It's not free, unfortunately, cuz it's actually a business tool, which allows inventory control, and can help with tax time calculations, etc....

Shankoo, welcome to SMF!

I'm sorry your soap didn't turn out.

Using this lye calculator, I get the same numbers you did:

http://www.thesage.com/calcs/lyecalc2.php

I wait till I can drizzle part of the soap mixture on top of what's in the soap pot, and it stays there quite obviously. Sometimes, it'll seem as if it's staying there, and when the mixture is stirred, and I try again, the traces don't stay.

I keep stirring and waiting until the traces of soap stay on top of the mixture.

I like to make sure the traces on top of the soap are as stable as when I make stove-top custard (the kind for pouring over fruit cobblers).

Does any of this description fit how your soap mixture was just before you poured it into the mold?

You can rebatch your soap, if you haven't thrown it away.

use the soap calc is easy once you use it, its very helpful in knowing what amts to use and ehat klind of soap you will get, you want a good conditioning bar that isnt too drying, try a smaller batch in crock? it is the hot process, i like oo, po, co, castor, it is awesome. good luck.

What was the temp of the lye solution and oils when you mixed them and did you bring the mix to trace before pouring?
Im not a particularly experienced soap maker but I have noticed that temp and trace are very important in the eventual end product coming out as expected if the rest of the recipe is correct.

Keep on keeping on...you will get there and be all the more wiser when you do crack it. :D

if you are doing hp it doesnt matter what the temps are, thats why i started that way, its easy! do you have a therm. I hope.

Thanks for the replies
The mixer before i put in the molds looked thick but didnt see any small little pieces of soap ans still running
temperature of lye was arround 100-120F and oil was close too before mixing
its been in the molds for 2 days now and its sort of drying but not hardening
so should i leave it more ??

Cheers

If you're up for an experiment, why not leave it in a few days and see if it gets hard enough to unmold?

I love soapmaker - it's a GREAT too. Soapcalc.com is another great resource and is a bit simpler for soapers just starting.

Well, you didn't say it separated, just that it didn't harden, but that it did turn thick. That makes me think there was too much water. How much water did you add?
