Hi Everyone!
I'm very new to soap making and I made a huge mistake yesterday. Generally I make small blender sized batch (because I'm still learning) but yesterday I decided to go all out and make a huge (for me) batch of Grandma's soap for the hunters in my family I love so much. I wanted enough to have some to grate to make "Scent-Away" type laundry powder as well as plenty for them to bath with during hunting season. Here's the recipe I used:

One 12 oz. can of 100% lye
21-1/2 oz. ice cold or partially frozen distilled water
5 lb., 7-1/3 oz. (2.48 kg) lard or all vegetable shortening.

Ok, here's where I messed up - I forgot to add the 7-1/3 oz of lard after I added my 5 lbs... :(

The soap hardened last night and looks beautiful, but I'm afraid it will be WAY too harsh to bathe with. So, here is where I need your advice:
Should I:
-Re-batch the whole thing - grate, melt, add additional lard I forgot to add to begin with, and remold

-Keep this batch as laundry soap only

Please let me know what I should do! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
Kimberly

Since you know exactly what you forgot, rebatch. If it was lye heavy and you didn't know what happened, then just trash it.

Rebatch it ASAP and you won't need to add much more liquid, and it'll be easier to melt down.
