Hi everyone,

Well what to say...I stumbled across this forum as I was searching for information on soap making, so here I am.

I haven't tried making soap before, well just those little craft kits you can get at Hobby Lobby, but lye soap is new to me. I have been making lip balms for a couple of years now and would like to try to expand into soap.

I pretty much just give my lip balms away to my friends and have sold one or two tubes to some ladies at the church, but that's about it. A friend of mine who has set up an online store has graciously allowed me to place a product or two with her, so I thought this would be a great time to try starting soap!

Making soap is a craft, and not something you learn over night. Keep in mind it might take you years before you can launche your soap line.

I agree with dagmar88, give yourself some time to breathe before you launch a soap line. You want to make sure you develop a product that's consistent, safe, and has a long shelf life. Do a lot of reading here, and you will be well on your way!

I had to giggle at your name, my name is Legg. I always teased DH that we should have named our children Harold and Margaret. Harry and Peg Legg.

Lol that's funny Deda! I totally would have named my kids something like that!! I actually chose my name because I hear that from my 5 yo DD all the time..."Ewwww mommy you have prickly legs!"

Thanks for the welcomes everyone! Oh I know I don't intend to start whipping up soap batches and selling them next month, I guess I just meant that the web store gave me the inspiration to start something new. But I totally understand that I'll need lots of time and practice.

I love the forum...so much information! I've been browsing through all morning and don't think I've even scratched the surface. You all seem like a friendly and helpful group, I"m glad I found this place!
