Hi my name is Rachel and I am VERY new to the soap making world. For this holiday season, I needed to find small gifts for so many people like co-workers, acquaintances, super extended family, etc. that I decided to do something totally different and make soap. I have made 18 melt and pour bars as of last night. I am now addicted!! I love it, and I want to learn how to do soooooo much more. I don't even know where to start, so I guess here is good. So far this site looks really informative. I can't wait to start making some of the recipies I've seen so far. Well, that's it for now.

Welcome Rachel! Can we see pictures of your soaps? We LOVE pictures!

If you have any questions just ask, there are some really fantastic MP soapers here that are happy to share what they know!

Ohhh...yeah, I will post pics tonight. I'm so happy to know there are other MP people out there. I thought that was just for "newbies". I would love to see some really good MP stuff!

Thanks for the compliment! Actually, how the name diamondwings came about is a bit of a sad story. I met this guy from Argentina and me and him hit it off right away. We were going to start an avant garde band called "Elephants with Diamond Wings" and we would stay up all night together and plan our band and what we would do and write poetry together to recite on stage. Anyway, about a year later we were engaged and living together and pretty happy. I am from NY and we moved together to Virginia. We were there for about a year, and I had to leave to come back to NY for a while and I left him in VA. Obviously we planned on getting married and we were going to move to Spain as soon as I could get back to him, but he died before I could get back. I don't know how he died. They wouldn't tell me anything because I wasn't his wife and his family back in Argetina wouldn't release any information to me. I don't even know where he's buried. So I always use diamondwings as a tribute to him.

But, on a lighter note, I am from NY. Long Island, to be precise. Where is everyone else from?

I got teary just reading your story, since I can't run up to NY and hug you I'll give you one here (((Diamondwings))) I think your tribute is touching.
Welcome to the forum. M&P is definately not just for newbies, some of the soapers here have turned it into an art form. You'll have lots of fun creating; can't wait to see your pics.

Thankyou for sharing

That is an incredible story. So sorry it happened. Congratulations for getting on with life and turning the tragic into magic.
Yes you are with friends here.
I am living on a mountain in QLD Australia. I have a dream life going on.Wishing you the same.
Soaping is just the best.
I shall have to Google up NY Long Is.
So what is your talent? Lead singer, drummer?

Yes, welcome Diamondwings - to live and not to love is not to have lived at all.......you have lived and loved the very best.

So glad you came along. I have soaped MP for a year now and love it!!!

I am not especially creative as I have been concentrating on adding lots of lovely natural oils, butters, juices, milks, clays, botanicals........the list goes on!

You can do so much with MP. Why not grab a cuppa and page through the photo gallery forum here? You will come across lots of lovely pics with quite a few MP creations to gaze at with longing

Here is a great Aussie site to check out. The recipes are all tested and the MP ones are about half way down the page. Enjoy!

Aw, thanks guys. I felt a little funny telling that story but I'm glad I did.

Starduster - keyboards.

I'm going to probably spend 80% of my work day looking around on this forum. Yay for new obsessions! I did, however, make some of my best soap so far last night. I am starting with the very basics until I get the hang of it. I am a little confused about adding butters and the like, but practice makes perfect!

Thanks again everyone for your support.

Fascinating Story

Lucky you to have that talent Diamond Wings.
It was good of you to share that story with us. Bet it would make a great short story and get published if you ever felt like doing that.
I don't mind admiting that I can take a little time to pick up things initially and even with the best will and application in the world so when I found this http://www.soapmaker.ca/ trialled it and then bought it ASP I was wrapped . Not only does it help you to be acurate with your first batch of soap, as long as you back up properly it is a for ever after Recipe File . Something that is so tangible and usefull I am happy to have a Recpe File printed down to leave behind me when I have the big Dirt Nap.
I shall hold my breath till I am blue in the face until you show us some photos of your soaps.

Welcome Diamondwings. That is a touching story. I hope all your soaping goes well, you desirve good things.

Amoosing

I have to ask, Is Bruce your real name ? Or was that a Bruce The Moose school nick name or such.
We don't of course have mooses to hug over here. Maybe an Echidna would substitue.

Diamondwings? Where were you in VA? I'm not far from DC.

Diamondwings - thank you for sharing your story with us. (PS if you saw this post before I edited it - please accept my apologies - long story but I knew someone who closely related to Dragonwings, she was a good friend so if actually was a compliment but meaningless to you).

Cheers
Linda

I lived in Richmond, VA. Right smack dab in the middle of the city. Near VCU. I would have been impressed if I hadn't lived so close to Manhanttan for so long. Plus, Richmond is kinda scary...

Oh, my! My DD lived in Johnson Hall, then in an apartment in the Fan when she was in VCU. I love Carytown! Urban Artifacts, Charmed Life, Montana Gold, Nacho Mama's! DS's GF is at VCU now, I drive down, 1.5 hours, every two weeks to bring her home. I adore Richmond!

I hope you have many happy memories of your time there. :D
