I joined last month, and have been exploring the forum, getting to know the feel of it.
I made soap when I was a lot younger (mother of young children) - lye, water, and lard. Simple recipe, got us clean.
I have a friend who makes soap and often sends me some. She's been doing this for several years. She told me last month that she wanted to send some soap, but wasn't up to making it, so she wanted to send me supplies so I could make my own. She sent me most of the supplies I'd need to start, as well as links to videos, blog posts, and Soapcalc to get me started.
I'd never made complicated soap, so it was daunting at first, but once I learn how to use Soapcalc and made my first batch, I was again hooked on making soap. The actual process was just as easy as the basic lye soap I was used to. I've had a lot of fun making up different recipes on Soapcalc. I've enjoyed exploring the forum, and doing searches on subjects I'm interested in knowing more about.
