I shave the old timey way with straight razor and double edge safety razors. I have quite a variety of shaving mug soaps, and want to try my hand with my own soap...

Welcome! There is a great recipe from Songwind (a member here) which seems to work VERY well and points the direction well

I also shave with the double edge safety razor - not yet worked up to using the stright blade. I find it really relaxing with the hot towel and all the trimmings - make a wee bit of 'man time' on the weekends and do it properly.

I always found them to be interesting myself. Well I'm a newbie here too and looking to make some natural soap since I am sensitive to so much and so sort of the same reason as you in a way ;) Nice to meet you and cheers to us and hope we both have good luck learning the way and mastering the skills

Welcome to the forum! My husband also shaves with a straight razor, and has been obsessed with buying, restoring, and honing straight razors for the past several months. One of these days, he's going to help me formulate a shaving soap recipe that he likes :) He's very picky about the kind of shave that a soap gives.
Keep us updated as you develop yours!

I have a number of commercial shaving soaps and creams for mug and brush, and each seems to have a personality all it's own. Many rave over the "Mitchels Wool Fat" with it's softening lanolin, but I usually follow up with a skin conditioner anyway. I mostly seem to like the talor of old bond street, and the Proraso soaps are nice too. I also use Tabac, and even known to bring out the williams that cost about a buck and change... I'm thinking to start with something hard with good lather like a proraso/tabac and will start with bay rum essential oils.
