Okay, just had to share. I put in my orders with Amazon and Essential Depot, so now I will be getting all the supplies I need mailed out probably early next week :) I am so excited! I wonder how slow the weekend will crawl by now...

I need a stick blender, oils, lye & a scale. Grrrrrr so close!

It will take a while to get to you but I ordered my stick blender from Brambleberry and it about $30-$35. I am sure you can find them cheaper. I bought my scale from Kroger and made sure it weighed up to 11 lbs. I cook a lot ;) I know you can find lye at hardware stores but I ordered mine along with the oils and it took FOREVER!!! Lol I don't like the waiting game ;)

I ordered my stick blender from Amazon (and also got my scale through them). I am a Prime member so didn't have to pay shipping. The scale only goes up to 1000 kg, but I do not foresee me needing more then that in the near future. If I am wrong, it was not a very expensive lesson, and it works for now :)

There is a stick blender on sale for less then $14 right now, if I was not so poor, I would have grabbed two of them. Good luck gathering your supplies! I completely understand how much waiting to get everything together sucks.

I am gonna get my lye from a local hardware store as well. I can go to Trader Joe's for the coconut, olive, sunflower & soybean oils. Walmart has my stick blender. The big ticket item will be the scale, which I am going to get from the UPS store.

Just a friendly FYI about my Walmart SB. I bought their Hamilton Beach 2 Speed Hand Blender (59762) and during my 5th batch, one of the black, plastic tabs that hold the blade attachment to the motor housing popped off. It must of had a weak spot in the plastic there because i never dropped it or tipped it over. I can still work with it but I have to hold the shaft to the housing and it really is a pain in the butt. I really need to just junk it before I make a serious mess and break out my new one.

I borrowed a scale from my neighbor. He said I can keep it as long as I want, as long as I don't forget it's his. :) I have one in my wish list at Brambleberry. It's their basic $20.00, I can probably get a comparable model at Wal-Mart, but I like that a soap company picked this one out as good for the cause, so to speak!

Badger, congrats on your order, so excited for you! Did you place your order at WSP as well?

Mel, Yes, I placed my order at WSP earlier this week, it has not shipped yet, but it is pending. I need to stop at the grocery store and get some Olive Oil, but I will need to do some grocery shopping in the near future anyways.

I had planned on getting a Kitchen aide one. But I seemed to have missed the sale on the on I wanted. And it was Target not Walmart I was gonna get it from.

Thanks for the tip though, Sammi.

Hey Badger! How's that wait going? Have you lined up the bottles of oil on the counter or did you
already measure & melt? I only ask because I finally caved & ordered FO's & EO's the other day
and they won't get here until Monday. I started soaping with the goal of removing all the extras
from soaps, like fragrance & colors but after reading so many posts here, well...I had to do it too!

AArrggh! MONDAY IS SO FAR AWAY!!!

Yeah, I just ordered from four suppliers. I got a five gallon paint bucket mixer that you attach to a drill. A five gallon bucket only can hold around 70 five ounce bars of soap...

I'm going to try to forget all about soaping until those supplies arrive.

...Except for today when I build drying racks. And tomorrow when I label all the samples we have. And the next day when we distribute the samples...

Good for you! If you can get a cuisnart or kitchenaid stick blender. I think bramble berry has one of them on sale around 35.00. The hamilton burned out on me too after a few batches.

Actually, I do not shop at Sam's Club as I do not have a membership anymore, but I have friends that have a membership to BJs and I was going to call and ask them if they could pick some up for me.

That's a great idea...OO is so much cheaper at the warehouse stores like that. I buy mine at Costco. It was around $17-$20 for two 3 qt bottles

I ordered a Proctor-Silex stick blender from Amazon because it was inexpensive. We will see how it holds up for me. If it gives me trouble, I will look into one of the other ones mentioned. I just have a really tight budget and wanted to get started as soon as I could, so I bought what I could.

Yep, I get my OO from Sam's...great stuff and cheap! I have several stickblenders...my original was a Hamilton Beach that I already had and never used, so I comandeered it for soapmaking. It worked fine, but I started picking up random SB's at yardsales/thrift stores, etc. whenever I saw one and had the opportunity of plugging it in to make sure it worked!
My favorite is a Rival SB that I picked up for $4...better than the Cuisinart SB IMHO! The bell is shaped better, so less bubbles; and I could give Nancy Today a run for her money with this little beauty, LOL!
