We are new to making soap. We are making Goat Milk soap. What I am wondering is when I use the CP, and I mix the lye with the frozen goats milk, keep it below 80 degrees, is it suppose to be grainy when I add it to our oils?

When I remove it from the molds to let it set for a couple of months, is it suppose to form crystals one the outside of the soap.

Thank you for your help.

It shouldn't be grainy, you can run the mixture through a sieve first. Are the crystals on the outside of the soap zappy?

I always run my lye threw a stainless sieve just in case. I have never seen crystals on a cp soap- that can't be good.

Sometimes my milk/lye mixture will get grainy because the fats in the milk have reacted with the lye.

But, the crystals on the outside sound like lye. Definitely do a zap test to check. If it is zippy, you will likely need to rebatch.

OK...I did the zap test...it zapped me :( Now what? I watched a couple of videos on rebatching. Guess that is what I will do with it. Thanks everyone.

I rebatch in the crock pot, it is pretty easy. I let the soap melt and stir and check for zap every 5 minutes or so..
