I have some green chromium oxide and yellow iron oxide from my resin crafts and I'm gonna try a swirl but I'm curious about what to mix them with. I've read some people use warm water and some use oils. My question is if I mix it in oil how much oil should I use? I'm thinking maybe an ounce of grapeseed per color. Should I heat the oil. Or should I just try water so I don't have too much oil not mixed in lye. Also from reading Dennis's posts with colors I'm gonna pour at very light trace and use full water this time (or close) but I don't want my eo to seize me. I've got a bin of misc eo I got from a customer at work a while back and I want to mix chamomile rosemary w a touch of eucalyptus nd Yang lang.I mixed some on cotton and I like it I just can't find info on how much they'll contribute to seizing. Thanks for the help. You guys were great with ironing out my thoughts on my last batch.

Depends somewhat one how big your batch is going to be. I usually mix my colors with a little water, if they're water soluble, or with much much less than an ounce of oil (room temp is fine). Again dependent on how much you're going to use to swirl, I start with maybe 1/4 tsp of colorant and perhaps 1/2 tsp of oil, just to get it suspended. Then, when ready. I mix in some soap batter and stir until it's uniform, add more batter until I have as much as I want to use for the batch and mix it up again.

If the first mix of oil and colorant looks too thick, I'll add another 1/4- 1/2 tsp of oil and then add the batter to that. Obviously if you're making 5 pounds of soap, you'll need more colorant than if you're making a 2 pound batch and then another determinant is how much swirl you want. Are you going for heavy swirls or just a few light ones? You get the idea though.

FLorals will accelerate trace so be aware if you are using Ylang Ylang. It's definitely possible to do, but sometimes you have to work quickly, and how fast it goes will depend on how much Y.Y. EO is in your mix. Sorry for so much ambiguity, but there are a number of factors that play in!

Thanks. That's no more ambiguous than my multi-layered query. I'll do an itp swirl and ill only use a little y y thanks
