Hi all. Wondering if there’s any advantage to using freeze dried fresh goats milk vs frozen? Will it help with a more white’ish color? (Not using td) What about adding gm to oils vs lye solution? Room temp vs warm? Only using eo & natural colorants.TIA!

I used to use frozen liquid goats milk and add my lye to it, and it always turned yellow and was a challenge to keep it from scorching further. It never affected the final color too much, but I also didn't color the goat's milk soap. I started adding powdered goats milk to my oils instead, and I think it affects the color even less. Powdered goats milk is definitely easier to use.

Thank you MrsZ! This is exactly what I was hoping hear. Fortunately I have lots of freeze dried goats milk. So you just treat like an additive and don’t do a water discount then? What amount do you find is good per lb of oil?

I usually soap at a 35% lye concentration, and use the goats milk as an additive. I've never used it in any highly designed soaps, so I can't speak on if it discolors in them or not. But my batter stays whiter than when I used liquid GM. I used about 2 tsp per pound of oil myself. I know there are several other people on here that use goat's milk much more regularly than I do and I'm sure they will have good input to share as well. :)

Some fine day, we will get a freeze dryer and I'll be able to use freeze dried goat milk for soap. Until then, it's fresh/frozen for me, also with all natural scents and colors.

If you know how much powder and water reconstitutes your freeze-dried goat milk to it's original ratio you can use that ratio in your soap. Simply blend the powder into your oils and use the water to dissolve the lye. Sounds so much easier than using fresh/frozen milk!
