I have been wanting to learn how to make soap, have read a couple of books about it (The Natural Soap Book and that other one I see listed so often...), love using the natural stuff and would love to make my own. Or so I thought. Until I started reading about lye. I will post on the other forum for questions and CP soap making, etc. I have a lot of questions.

Hello and Welcome to the forum! I know it sounds a little scary at first, but don't let the lye scare you off. As long as you handle it with care, you will be fine. I am very new to making soap myself, and I am aware that lye can be dangerous, but as long as I handle it with care then things should be fine (my only concern in dealing with lye is my cat trying to help me make soap, but he has been well behaved :) )

Hi Cassia

Welcome, I suggest if you have a lot of questions, go back through the forum and start reading, there is a lot of info already there for the taking.

Hello and welcome! Don't be afraid just be prepared and work slowly. Make sure there are no kids or pets that may get in the way or accidently bump you and you will be fine.

I was afraid at first too. Dh thought I would blow up the house lol but guess what it did not happen! I have been soaping going on 6 years now. Take the precautions seriously, don the goggles, gloves and apron if you have one over some old clothes. Make sure all kids and pets are out of the room and you have a good ventilation circulation in the room. Have you white vinegar near by just in case and good luck!;)

I always mix my lye and water outside because the fumes make me choke and I have a bird in the next room.

Seriously, it's nothing to be scared of. I make 2 lb. batches and there's hardly any water and lye involved anyways.....just read up and jump in.
