Fragrances and CP soap

Hello, I’m going to give CP soap a try for the first time. Can someone advise me accelerating fragrances? How do I know if a particular type of fragrance will rice or seize etc? Many thanks for your help

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately, it’s hard to tell you exactly what FO May cause issues as sometimes it also depends on the recipe. However, some accelerating fragrances are florals and ocean scents. Those seem to give me the most challenges.

Check the massive review chart in the fragrance reviews forum. Any issues are usually noted in the reviews. I know Brambleberry lists that information for their fragrances, and at least a few other vendors do as well.

I would also test a small batch before going big with a new fragrance, a few bars of lumpy soap isn't as big a deal as ten pounds of them.

I would make a small batch (16-32 ounces) of unscented/uncolored soap for your first time soapmaking. Then you will know how your recipe is supposed to behave.

If you want an FO, go to a reputable supplier who focuses on soap. Brambleberry, Nurture Soap Supplies, Wholesale Supplies Plus and Majestic Mountain Sage are good. Many candle fragrances will work in soap, but places that focus on candles don't always do testing of their FOs in soap, so it can be a gamble.

Problem FOs tend to be florals, spices (anything with cinnamon or clove notes), ocean/salt scents. But if you read the reviews, you can usually find out if they are easy to use, a bit touchy, or downright mean.

You can also pick up an essential oil at a healthfood store. I like NOW brand. Don't buy doTerra or YoungLiving - you are paying big $ for hype. I recommend lavender, lemongrass or mint. These are cost effective, well behaved and will last.
