I have a little green parrot, his name is Buddy (the Elf - Green Jacket, Yellow Pants).

He's learned a new trick, he flies around to find me. We used to keep him downstairs in the family room, but moved him upstairs when I moved into the new soap room, didn't want to gas him to death with FO's and Lye. Now that he's upstairs and he has a line of sight to several rooms he just takes off to visit. I really hate to keep him caged, he's happy when he's free, and usually he just hangs out on top of the cage. I swear, he's the most spoiled bird in the world.

I have a parrot too, a sun conure, a terribly spoiled girl! Her name is Peaches.

If you are worried, I know some people don't agree with it, but I'd suggest clipping his wings. A baby clip is the best sort of first clip, since it isn't radical. But it impedes his way to fly.

My Peaches has been clipped for a long time. We are her mode of transportation, she is with us unless my family is cooking or doing something bird unsafe. She can glide well, but not gain height. So she can make it to us if we put her on her play gym in the same room and we are sitting on the couch. I clip her wings myself, and at the same time do her toenails. She is such a good birdy as I do it. Afterwards she gets lots of scritches, treats, and cuddles.

A vet can do it for 10-15$ if you aren't sure how. And they can show you the way to do it too.

If you don't want to clip, perhaps if you had room, you could make a bird room? A bird safe place he does have free reign in.

http://www.theperch.net/discussion/ The Perch, the forum at the link, has a ton of information. Other "parronts" might be able to provide some better advise than I have. I hope you can find a safe solution for Buddy! Do you have any pictures? I bet he is such a looker!

He's a good bird, I want him to fly, he has incredible control and flies everyday - it's new that he just comes to find me. He used to just fly to us if he saw us, now he goes looking!

I'm not comfortable clipping his wings as we have 3 cats in the house. They all live together quiet harmoniously. When we first got him, 2 and a half years ago, they were very interested, but now not so much. I think they view him as family and haven't ever acted aggressively towards him. Now outside, they will hunt and kill anything that roams, mice, birds and moles.

Buddy's cage is large and open from the top, he's in and out all day. We only close it up at night when we put him to bed.

I would have never imagined myself a bird person, but he is kinda fun.

Buddy comes lookin for me too only not in such a good way......Guess he's defending his loved ones. Maybe one day he'll love me too?

LOL, Sibi! He will learn to love you, you just have to give him some time!

Krissy - he does talk, but only when he feels like it.

Buddy sounds like a lovely companion! I used to have a peachface parrot that followed me around or came to the sound of my voice. I couldn't put a hand to him - he would take a piece out of it! But if I allowed him his space, he would land on my head or shoulder and talk to me and whistle tunes to me if I sang along.....just did not like hands.

Tanya :)

BTW Deda - love the new tag line

He sounds like a wonderful bird . I had a budgie that I taught to talk , he was a great bird.

Awesome! Read Wesley, The Owl. It is an awesome book about owls' behavior. It is a quick, easy read, and quit entertaining. Makes me want a bird, but I think 7 fuzzies are enough. Our cat WOULD hunt it down, anyway.
