First Scent Combo's Testing:

4 Combo's + Ratio, Updates when I have them (About a hour or so)
Ratio = # of toothpicks dipped.

1) Lemongrass + Cedarwood at a 2 to 1 Ratio
2) Lemongrass + 6x Sweet Orange at a 2 to 1 Ratio
3) Peppermint + Tea Tree at 1 to 2
4) Speatmint + Tea Tree at 1 to 2

I know many have done these combos im sure but figured I would post

1) Was alright, needed a extra toothpick of Lemongrass (3 to 1)
2) Wasn't...bad, just not my thing.
3) Really nice. Had to add a toothpick of Teatree

Lemongrass is in the same scent family as the orange. That is why the combo is sort of meh at best. However, I find that lemongrass plays nicely with a tiny bit of cinnamon(or cassia) bark EO, or clove bud EO. Or both. I think the contrast/combination of citrus and spice is really great.

The SPearmint and Teatree was vile o.o;
I do have some clove, I might have to play with those two as well.
The Spearmint might just be its own thing I think.

I just used a combo of peppermint and tea tree in my HP shaving soap experiment today. It smells really nice and refreshing, but one of the things I noticed in my research is that peppermint has a relatively low flashpoint of 120 deg F (at least according to Brambleberry), so that needs to be taken into account for soaping.

New to flashpoints and such myself. So this means that I should mix at less than 120 than to prevent it from losing the scent?

Yes, thats exactly what it means. Especially important when making HP, nothing like burning off all your scent.

Citrus EOs are a bear for this. 104-110F for most of them. By the time my soap (HP shaving soap) cools down near that, it's a real PITA to stir.

teatree can be so tricky and a pita all at once. the smell is so damn strong to use on its own, and if mixed it usually overpowers other scents quite easily. hate hate teatree

no, actually i dont hate it, just gotta be super careful with this one.. and i have too much i dont know what to do with it..

Well with this last soap I made, 1 peppermint + 3 Teatree was perfect. The soap smells awsome and the teatree is a secondary scent you get right near the middle / end of your 'sniff'

lol I don't think I would've tried spearmint with tea tree, but I do love a tisane I made using lemongrass and spearmint. Why not try those two together?

I think Teatree is to scent what cilantro is to taste. You either love it or hate it. People who love it, LOVE it. People who hate it, HATE it.

I do not like Teatree in the least. To tolerate it, I have to drown it out with other scents.

(I don't like cilantro, either.)

I'd say patchoulli is more like the scent-cilantro than tea tree is.

(I lovelovelove cilantro, I'm on the ambivalent side of 'like' for tea tree, and one time I sniffed a patch-scented soap in the store... HATED it and the scent lingered on my hands even after going to the bathroom and washing them.)

I can't bear cilantro (coriander over here). roblem: I don't like patchouli on its own, but it can do great things mixed with other oils. Tea tree? I love it for my skin and I quite like the scent, but it's a kind of functional smell to me. I'd be very happy to use it for its properties, but wouldn't choose it just for its fragrance.

Maybe you could find a teenager with bad skin, Seven - it's one of the few oils you can use directly on your skin and it is very good.

You may have a point about the Patchouli. Only batch of soap I threw away had it in there. I threw the whole bottle away then also.
