Hi all!
I've NEVER made soap before but have been reading up on it for the last month and am actually taking a CP class on the 25th and am SUPER excited! I can't wait to get started! I really want to get my supplies ordered so that when I have a clear understanding of the process I can hit it hard!
I know about Brambleberry and that's where I plan to order from, but what exactly to I need to get started? Obviously I need Lye. But How much? Does it go bad? What about oils? Do I NEED Coconut/Avocado oil? How many EO's do I need to start with? I know this is 20 questions but I'm really trying to get a handle on this and well, I'm just excited! I figure between you pros and my class I should be able to get going on this soon!!!

Thanks everyone!!

Hi welcome to the forum and to soapmaking.
If you keep your lye in a tightly sealed container it will be fine. I started out with small amounts 3 lbs. For eo's lavender is a good one or ylang ylang , patchouli . You don't even have to scent your soap if you don't want to.
There is tons of info on the forum . Have fun , happy soaping.

Welcome to the forum! :)

In addition to reading posts on the forum, you might want to take a look at the "Everything Soapmaking Book". It helped to answer alot of my questions in the beginning.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the welcome's! So you think 3lbs. will last me a while? I'm not the brightest when it comes to converting and if I remember right, you don't measure your lye in lbs. in your recipe, right? I'm just wondering how many lbs. of soap that will acutally make? Do I sound really dumb??? Sorry!!!!

Welcome!
If you decide to make a small batch like 1 lb. I would suggest converting the recipe into grams. It's more accurate that way.

I totally agree....besides metrics are much easier to work with. JMHO of course. :)

Wow, guys, you really know what you're talking about! I can't wait to be able to do that! The whole converstion thing kills me! Thank GOD for those calculators!! I can't wait to take my class, then I think I'll really be ready! I prolly won't post pics of the soap I make in the class, I have pretty high hopes for that, I mean if she's holding my hand it better turn out well!! But When I do it myself I'll be sure to let you know!!
Thanks for all the help!!
