Felting soap...

I just thought of something else.....could it be that the thickness of the felt makes a huge difference? If it is too thick...it takes too long to dry. Maybe that's the key to it not getting mold and mildew.

Never had a moldy problem with mine. I'd squeeze as much excess water as I could & it sat on a wire rack.

Sometimes there is only one way to find the answer

I went to town last night and bought some wool! Ouch! that stuff is expensive!! Came home and felted some soap.

Now I can see that the wool dries a lot faster than I would have thought!

Edited to add pic: I did these last night and they were dry in about an hour.

Those look really nice, Dixie!

I've been through a few bars of felted soap and I've never had them go mouldy on me or stink. The soap gets into the felt once it's broken in which, I think, creates an inhospitable environment mould or mildew. Also, they do dry fast-- you have to be careful not to make the wool too thick or thin-- too thick and it dries more slowly, too thin and the soap peeks through after felting...
