Hi, I'm fairly new to soap making (I have a few cp batches under my belt) and I was wanting to try using my own recipe with the addition of some extracts. Do I need to change the amount of distilled water I use to account for the extracts? Thank you in advance!

Yes, I would decrease your water by the amount of the extracts. Any beneficial properties likely will not survive the lye though.

It depends on the total weight of the extracts. I do not adjust the water amount when using fragrance and essential oils, but I only use about .5 oz PPO.

Thanks for the input! One more question, to prevent the lye from ruining my extracts, could I decrease the water content, mix the lye and water then add oils and finally extracts?

The soap will still go through saponification thus destroying most of the benefits. Extracts may also contain alcohol which doesn't work well with cp soap.

Thank you lsg!! I'm glad I asked before I went and bought a bunch! The forum has been so helpful, I'm learning so much!!!!
