I generally make my soap in the crock pot. After the "cooking" is complete, I try and let it rest a few minutes and then add the FO to the mix before moving it to the mold. Typically, my house ends up full of a wonderful aroma, but not enough of it makes it into the soap. I figure the problem is the FO is evaporating when it hits the soap batter. So, two questions:

1. Am I right here?
2. What would fix this problem? Would mixing with 1 oz of a superfatting oil and then mixing that into the batter help?

I have the same problem when I make CP soap, but it seems that everytime I do make soap CP, it gels. I'm not sure if this is because I'm using a wood mold or not. Advice on getting the scents to be more stable during the first 24 hours would be appreciated.

It does seem that whatever scent stays in the first 24 hours lasts...it's just getting to to stick around initially that's the problem.

Thanks for the tips in advance, as always, you guys are so helpful!

i notice some fragrances stick better than others. i was making a batch every couple of days after not soaping for about 2 months and the first 2 batches had nice strong fragrances - vera wang's signature fragrance and red currant. then i did a batch with pear glace and that was so faint you had to know what you were trying to smell. all three batches weren't gelled, used the same recipe and had the same amount of FO.

i'd imagine that mixing a FO into a warm/hot mixture doesn't help, but some FOs just come out really faint. i don't know whether gelling affects the strength of an FO either - i've gelled my chanel and lemon verbena CP soaps and their fragrance is still there; the lemon verbena is particularly strong.

Where do you get your Lemon Verbena from? That's one of my FAVORITE scents, and I haven't really found one online yet that I've been satisfied with!

bramble berry. i sent a piece of that soap to a fellow soaper who said it was a very nice lemon. now i've soaped it (and still have enought to make at least another couple of batches), i've realised i'm not much of a lemon fragrance person, but that's okay because most of my soaps are for gifts and some people do like lemon.

what brand of fos are you using? i noticed some companys just arent as strong, like gellumiantions, peak is good as is ng and bb. Are you using at least .5 per lb of soap? hp you dont need as much, if it was cp i use 1oz per lb. Ive had a few fade, not too many though.

honor, do you ever find that with some brands, some fragrnaces are stronger than other?

eg, sweetcakes - the vera wang and clean are very strong, but the blue by ralph lauren fades...or is it just me?

def. difference between companies and fos, peak are all good(that ive bought) bb, ng. I dont know about the ones you mentioned.

so all you peak are strongly fragranced?

lucky you...i'm limited to what's available in australia - some of the FO companies i've looked at don't ship here and with those which do, frieght is expensive :(

yes they all seem good from peak, sorry you cant get stuff there in aust. lucky you to be there? my Mom loves it, shes been there many times.

i guess we can't have everything.....but i know you have many nice things where you are....like peak....i guess i need to find someone to bring it over for me....
