hi all,

im looking for a system to document all my raw ingredients, batch numbers and things, cost calcs ect....

something very much like the soapmaker software - but MAC friendly (and im not interested in running it with a windows platform thing - im happy to just use excel spreadsheets/databases - but i just need an idea of how to create these types of things - OR better yet pre made templates to get me started, im not concerned about customer databases, or anything to do past the moment its packaged and labeled (i have other software that can handle that stuff) just want something that will enable me to enter the formula, calculate the quantities, keep a record of what raw ingredients went into each batch, a record of these batches and expirys ect...

can anyone help me out (i usually google things like this to death - but today i seem to have lost my google knack and can't for the life of me even think of the right words to use to search!!!! - its very frustrating!)

TIA :)

My fiance does this type of thing for a living. So he custom made me ones through excel spread sheets.

I have a list for inventory/Location cost list/Recipes.

Inventory keeps track of what I have, the cost of it, how much of it, the price for the weight, what is used, remaining, and when I should be ordering. If you know simple algebra and can think up a simple system for you, that's a good basis for it.

~I don't really have anything for an expiration date, but it's always something you could add.

Location cost is basically me listing where each item is and prices of the item at different locations. It helps me keep in touch with local sellers. Also makes me aware if I am getting the best prices if there are sales. Allows me to calculate averages as well. Which is a good thing to know!

As for the recipe, this one is my favorite. Basically what my fiance did was allow for the recipe to be written down and than from teh inventory list it will calculate how much of what product is being used. There is also a place to add notes. Than for each batch, how much the batches cost to keep track of the prices. (Because ingredients go up in price. You also might want to change the recipe, perfect it and stuff!)

I am in the same boat - Mac user and I don't want to install windows. I also have an iPad and use Bento to keep track of everything (you can use Bento on a Mac as well). I posted about it a while back:

I have since also created a supplies inventory as well. It's clearly not as robust as soapmaker but works for me while this is still just a hobby. Hopefully by the time I sell (if I sell) Soapmaker will make a mac version that doesn't require windows.
