When my first batch of soap turned 4 weeks old I started using it everyday in the shower. While I didn't think that it was horrible soap, I didn't think it was fantastic. The past couple of days I have been noticing that it feels nicer and nicer. It is about 5 1/2 weeks old now. Am I imagining this? Did I just get used to the soap or did it actually transform into something better?

It's probably a combination of both! Most soap gets better with age. I noticed that when I first started using my soap my usually oily skin was drying out quickly and felt "squeaky" clean. Now, after using it for a long time, my skin feels more balanced and I love that it's not oily any longer! Congratulations on your new soap-making skill!

The older soap is, the nicer it becomes and gentler on your skin. You are not imagining it.
That is why a full cure on soaps is crucial. Soaps that are not fully cured are just not at their optimum and can be quite harsh depending on how old they are.

Most of my soaps get at least a 6 week cure before I use or give them away to be tested.

I have noticed that my 2 month old unfragranced and uncoloured shea butter soap is smelling 'creamier' if you know what I mean :)
