Local lady used to do cosmetics and had a bunch of micas and containers for cheap.
Got all this mica for $20 and it's 38 oz in weight!
It's from tkbtrading which I'm not familiar with. Most say for general cosmetic but not lips so guessing those are fine. I actually am not super familiar with using micas and if there are different qualities and types or if all are created pretty equal.
What about one with carmine? What is that?
Or the big bag of white Td she said is a base for makeup but it has magnesium stearate. Ok for soap?
A few others have wired names like ferric ferrocyanide.. Which looks like cyanide name. Ha! It's blue sapphire. Think it's for the coloring?

Could be interesting. If you look at their website and click on each colour mica you have, some of them have comments relating to their use in CP soap left by customers. That might save you some dud soap batches. A lot have no comments and the website itself says nothing about the use in soap. I'd image a lot of them would fade, morph or bleed but some would be cool. You could make a cheap batch of base soap and play around and find out. They sure look pretty! No idea about the TD or thingamelongname stuff. Looks like a score one way or another. Jelly!

Yeah I sent in a 'ticket' to them but who knows how long it will take.. I was honest and chose 'low' priority since it is.. but my curiosity is high. lol!

I could test a few small batches, just hoping its not a case of a few are good and then the bigger batch on another color morphs or bleeds. :/

Found them! They say 'soap stable' mica.. and man do they have a lot!! wow.
At $4 an ounce I guess it's a good deal. Now to check each one.
still wondering what some of these odd ball names are though.. and the white with the stearate. Thats what I want to use most.

TKB has a list of all their soap stable micas so you could double check that list. Depending on how old these micas are, some may not be listed anymore because they do stop carrying certain colors. It may be a lot of work, but could you list the names of what you have? I have used a lot of TKB micas and I'm sure many other have so we may be able to say if certain ones have been stable for us.

Do you do M&P at all? That would be another place to use these if they aren't stable in CP.

I'm jealous!

TD is generally safe for soap. I will have to go look at my bag to see if there is magnesium stearate in there. Maybe it's used to prevent clumping?

It's hard to read the names in your picture but I'm pretty certain I see two Pearl colors. THe pearls pink, green, blue, purple, yellow are all soap stable.

I can't tell if that's Capricorn Sea in the upper right hand corner. If so, that is NOT stable in CP, which is a shame because it is gorgeous.

I don't really do M&P.. For imbeds only. Which are color.. Just not much.
I'll try to take a better pic. Thanks for any help. :) excited to try a new kind if they are stable.

Ahh... I think I spent an hour and a half on their website one Saturday morning (everyone else was sleeping) all because of a colorant book I purchased. I would have jumped all over that deal.

All your Pearls are stable and I am pretty certain they are only oil soluble. They will just float on water if you are pre-mixing your colors.

Stable:
All Love green
Colorona Bordeaux (although if really overdo it, it will make your soapy chalky and strange
All the Blackstars, except they will end up looking almost black in soap because they are so dark
I am not 100% on Love Song but I think so. I bought it and it must have been listed in stable- I used it up and haven't used it for a while
Black

Damn, I'm going to have to go back and look again- can't remember all the names!

Capricorn sea goes to NOTHING. SO so disappointing because it is drop-dead gorgeous.

Stable:
green oxide
Swiss chocolate (makes a great rich brown)
Midnight Blue I believe is but will look really dark and almost black

NOT Stable (for sure)
Emerald
CAp Sea

The others I would guess are not but would see if anyone else here, or TKB, can confirm that.

And I have to say that I bought Love Song and now I can't remember if it morphed a bit. I don't think it disappeared. I have to say I'm uncertain.

Some of my for sure soap stable TKB micas have Mag Stearate in them so I don't think that will hurt the soap at all.

I wonder if you could go to TKB's FB page and post a request for a swap for the non-stable ones you have, for certain colors that are stable. They might allow that on their page and there are probably people who have other colors who would be interested.

Wow Newbie! Thanks SO much! That really narrows down the ones I need to test on. And yes.. I'll see about going to their FB page for an exchange with another.

It says your Honey, GLimmer beige and Dusty ROse are stable too. Total score!

It SAYS the Emerald is stable but the reviews are clear it is not, unless you like grey.

Holy crap! I'm so jealous! I've been spending time lately pricing colors on tkb and a couple other sites. I want some sooo bad. Problem is they all have certain ones that are great prices and the rest more expensive (this applies to all the stores I've looked at.) So I don't know who to purchase from, because getting the cheapest ones from each store of course would be more expensive in the end with shipping. I've been thinking about posting a thread here asking for recommendations on the most affordable place to buy a basic selection of colors. I have a sample pack from BB my boyfriend bought me, and now I must have ALL THE COLORS. lol. But I don't have the money, so I keep telling myself to quit and posting a thread now is getting ahead of myself and just going to make the wait for money harder.... But wow if I'd seen that, I'd have probably sold something to get the 20 bucks and jumped all over it!

I am so jealous! I just started using their micas and I am smitten. Lucky you!

Carmine is made from powdered scale insects. If you are looking to make an all vegetable soap, leave the carmine out. :)
