No, but if you then go on to say that meth is bad because it is made by aliens, prepare to be laughed at. You were that far wrong.
No Fighting.
I feel hostility in this thread so:

I've been following this thread and I'm going to post once...only once, and may post a reply if I feel like it and/or if I feel the response to my comment is entirely free of hostility. Ok, here goes... :)

I've been using the same glass mixing bowl for my lye mixture for four years (at least). I bought it brand new when I started making soap. I don't see any visible etching (although, I know I probably wouldn't even if there was). I also feel uncomfortable using plastic for my lye mixture, because I feel that it releases unnecessary toxins (that may be a harsh word to use...) whether or not that is actually true.
That being said, I would not call myself a Glass Advocate (as it were). I would never recommend or encourage someone to use glass for their lye mixture, even if they were borrowing the same glass bowl that I use. I think it's too risky as far as safety goes (concerning breakage). I'm not calling myself an expert or accusing anyone else of being careless (by any means! I know all of you are very safety-oriented!) but I add my lye to my liquid super super slowly and let it completely incorporate before adding more. I am overly cautious for whatever reason.

Ok. That is all :)

The accurate information was actually very much appreciated - far from sarcasm there, as I love learning new things, don't like being wrong and am more than happy to be corrected.

The method of doing it was, in my opinion (and as it was directed at me, my opinion on the method is rather valid) utterly and without question over the top and aimed to be degrading and hurtful.

One of the benefits of a forum is that one can see a post, have an immediate reaction and THEN post something, once the knee-jerk has finished and a structured clarification can be given. But then I suppose I have forgotten how groups of people on the internet act.

I don't know why I have so many pictures that fit this thread....but in effort to keep things happy and calmer I will continue posting until we go back to being nice in the sandbox or I get a PM from a mod yelling at me :D

Done. You're welcome.

Such polite manners.

:) It's the specific alkali that actually dissolves the glass (very very very slowly) and the rate of addition won't change anything as far as etching, although your method IS safer for splashes, heat, etc. so slow addition is still a good idea.

Why continue to poke, Shalisk?
