Sooooo - after so long making soap with no colorants, or using just plant based colors, I'm hankering to take the plunge into making boldly colored soaps. Yay me.

I blame the Monthly Soap Challenges. šŸ¤£

I'm looking at micas on Nurture Soap and I'm finding that so many of them are not FDA approved for external use, though it looks like they're sold for soap colorant. Do I need to steer clear of using these micas in my soap, and any other colorants, that are not approved for external use, or am I misunderstanding the approval rating?

I'm thinking that those are the ones not approved for bath bombs and lips.

Thanks for the reply! Yes, that is correct, they're not for bath bombs or lips. I'll steer clear of those then. Thanks again! :)

Hey Kim, my understanding is that bath water may end up on lips or be accidentally ingested, and the same with putting Mica on lips. Unless you're in the habit of washing your lips with or eating soap, those Micas are probably ok to wash with.

I would seek out specifically skin-safe colorants, personally synthetic, eco-friendly micas from shops like Mad Micas or BB are the best, and yield a nicely colored soap!
