Cottonseed or rice bran oil???

Hello everybody,
I am in a rut as i am using a soap calc and google to create my own tailored soap recipe.
I am going to use coconut and olive but i wanted a third base oil.
I am having trouble deciding between cottonseed or rice bran oil. Which one is better ie shelf life, quality etc?
Lastly, i was surfing the web and it said that you cannot use cottonseed and rice bran oil in excess of 25%. Has anybody else heard this or is it a load of Bull S***?

I never use cottonseed oil but I have used ricebran oil a few times and I've never had a problem with it in one of my standard type recipes, but perhaps someone else may wish to say differently.

I started using RB to replace half my OO to cut costs. RB is ment to have a fairly long shelf life, and works fairly well in soap, havnt got any that have cured yet to compare.
However if RB and OO were the same price I would soap with just OO all the time.

I use a small % of rice bran oil in my soaps. I have notes that read ...

'Rice Bran Oil use 5-20%. Use 10% for a silky lather. Conditioning. Gives bubbles. Contains vitamin E. Has moderate levels of linoleic acid, so use in small (very) amounts, as linoleic acid causes DOS and rancidity. NB - Linoleic Acid is an unsaturated fatty acid that adds conditioning to the soap. Oils high in linoleic acid tend to go rancid quickly, and more easily develop DOS.'

I'm guessing this is from a variety of sorces ... and I haven't recorded them. Hopefully someone with more experience re the quality of oils can shed some light on whether there's any truth in this.

I haven't tried Rice Bran or Cottonseed yet. Although I do have a jug of RB oil waiting for me.

For your third oil, you might want to look into either Palm or Lard, which work very nicely with Coconut & Olive to produce a well balanced soap.

I don't use rbo anymore, but I used it up to 25% (don't think I ever went higher than that, but not for any reason - I just didn't want to)... never had a problem... I have bars over two years old that are fine... however, I wasn't using rbo with a large % of olive, I was using rbo instead of olive (it is said to be a wonderful substitute)

I made my first batch of cows milk soap using rice bran oil today. It seems to have worked well.

If anybody reads this, what is the shelf life of soap that is made from cows milk which has come straight from the dairy?

All my goat milk soap is made with fresh milk directly from my little dairy Aussie Girl so I can tell you that the shelf life is extremely good because the heating process that is created when the caustic soda is added will distroy any bacteria that may be in non treated milks.
