I know a few companies have been recommended but I'm sick of searching! Can someone please give me a link or company name? I just ruined a perfectly lovely batch of pink sugar scented soap with beet root powder. You don't get anything remotely pink or red, just a chunky, gritty orangy brown.

I've not found the right pink myself! I've only used lab colors but have ordered some powdered pigments and clays which I haven't yet received. My imitation pink in lab color turned out a deep hot pink but I think that was my fault - will try it again with only a little bit used.

Pink sugar is notorious for turning your soap dark brown. No matter what color you add, you will get brown and it will keep getting darker.

I just bought some peacock dyes, but have seen select shades recommended. I think they are similar and I really like my dyes so far (with my limited experience).

You can order the 8 color select shades set and there's also a neat color chart.

Ditto what Milla said. Pink Sugar and all other FOs with a high vanilla content will go dark brown no matter what colorant you add. It's the nature of the beast. Your only hope to stave off the brownies is to add Vanilla Stabilizer to your soap that some of the vendors sell.

Ahhh! I'm not so annoyed now that I know it was the FO. It's swirled, hopefully my family will enjoy the scent and embrace the brown. It has gotten a lot darker and browner ad the day has gone on, you weren't kidding on that one Milla!

Saltysteele that is very pretty!!

salty, nice peach soap, i make one exactly like it using cheap michals soap color(red), i use orange chili pepper fo from millcreek, it is THE bomb!

I ordered select shades and LOVE them. I was determined I would soap and color naturally. Guess what, got bored of the natural colors. I highly recommend the select shades.

Hi ! I am new to the forum, but not new to soaping. I have been making CP soap for years. I have tried all types of coloring and I like these colors. http://www.thesoapdish.com/soap-dyes.htm They morph when added, but then are the color they are supposed to be when the soap cures overnight. It was really weird the first time I used them as the red immediately turned purple. LOL, But by morning is was no longer purple.

As for beet root powder, I thought I would get red the first time I used it, or at least a pink color. But it colors more golden yellow for me. I like it though :D

i use powder oxides, but they dont seem to dissolve very well, iam very happy with most cheap color from michaels, someone said they didnt work in cp, they do! and hp.

I had some chalk pastels kicking around. I chose a medium purple bit, not a big piece, and took a small knife and scraped a bit of purple powder into a rebatch. I was surprised at how far it went, turning the whole batch a rather lovely shade. I'll let you know how it looks tomorrow when I cut it up...

If it works it will be a great way to experiment with colours-- it seems way less expensive than buying special powders individually when I'm still deciding what direction to go.

Another vote for Select Shades, which reminds me that I need to reorder a couple colors. :)

Honor, I wish to God I could get the Michaels soap colors to color my cphp. I just tried them again tonight after reading your post earlier. I swear they DONT work for me, they dont color my soap whatsoever. Can you tell me what brand you have? TY.

On these kolourscope dyes from the soap dish it says not for use on lips or mucus membranes.. that doesn't sound so good, what if I wanna wash my face?
