Coconut oil's price is up

Is palm kernel a good replacement for part? Also, how much canola for replacing some olive oil?

rice bran oil is a better substitute for olive than canola. canola is prone to rancidity.

I would not use canola as a replacement for olive. Try Rice Bran oil and don't forget to recalculate your recipe.

wow, coconut got more expensive than PKO. interesting. guess when I run out I'll consider switching - they may be interchangeable in soap formulas (with the appropriate lye calculations).

soapers choice.. their price has gone up 50 # coconut oil was 79.75 that was with shipping i cant find my receipt but I have it on my cost sheet.. it is 78.00 now without shipping .PKO is at 70.00 now..

just checked my receipt, I paid $53.50 for the 50 # co back in Aug. that's went up to $78.00 now (these prices don't include the shipping cost) that's a pretty big increase. :evil:

That's great info Deda. You wouldn't happen to know when the new crop will be harvested do you? I almost placed a panic order last night thinking the prices might continue to go up but if they might go back down in the next few months maybe waiting would be better. Hmmm

I read this article earlier this week, it's about a ban on exporting cocoa form the Ivory Coast region of Africa for one month. Does anyone know if this would encompass cocoa butter as well? I have not been able to find more information but was thinking it might......
