Here's a recipe with planned additives. I forgot to add silk and clay. Thoughts?

How much cocoa powder do you intend to add?

I don't know. Two teaspoons per pound? I only have Hershey's cocoa so it will have to be enough to make it dark. Do you think cinnamon will be light enough against dark chocolate for a pencil line?

It's not all that much. The standard is 38%. I like working with round numbers where possible. Also I have been noticing I trace quickly and thicken up quick, maybe the extra water will help it stay smoother a minute or two longer. What do you think?

Mel, I have used up tp 1 tsp per pound oils and it gets really dark especially if you are using a fragrance that has vanilla in it (common in chocolate FO's) When I cut into my chocolate oatmeal soap, the cocoa swirls werent that dark but after a day or two they darkened up to a chocolate brown. This was just my experience though. Your recipe looks devine! I love using that cmbo of oils :mrgreen:

This recipe sounds wonderful, Mel. I am not sure the cinnamon would show up against the dark of the chocolate. I do love the mix of chocolate and cinnamon though (I make brownies with cinnamon chips in them).

Someone recently posted some pictures of a lovely swirled soap colored with cocoa, so I had to try that as my first attempt at swirling. I used about 1 tsp of cocoa per pound of oil, which turned the raw batter an unappealing pale brown. That was lighter than I wanted, but I stuck with the plan.

Good thing I did -- the color darkens a LOT in the finished soap after it's exposed to air. I didn't realize that would happen, but I like how it turned out. The color is now a (duh!) rich, dark cocoa brown.

I thought the cocoa slowed trace, compared with the plain batter I used for the light color. I don't know if it makes a difference, but the cocoa was dutch processed (a method to remove acidity).

so I made the chocolate soap tonight! I had to scale it to 1.75 pounds oils; I'm out of lye and didn't have enough for the full batch. I'm letting this one gel. The last couple I didn't gel so I thought I would let this one do it. I'm sure it will be a great chocolate when done - I used chocolate coconut milk for half the liquid, 1.5 tsp Hershey's powder, and 8/10 oz of Chocolate Fudge scent from Candle Science. It smells like brownies are cooking in here. YUM! Dusted the top with unsweetened chocolate shavings; shaved it right off the block over the soap!

Update: It's in the freezer, it started to crack which means it's overheating or something, right? I hope it saves!
