So, I just started my first CPHP batch of soap. I was stirring by hand for a bit, but decided to get out the trusty SB. I reached trace quickly, but it looks like I scraped enamel off of the bottom of the crockpot with the SB!

What should I do? Can I transfer to some other vessel and save the soap? Is my crockpot ruined?

Thanks for any help.

I would be quite concerned about both the pot and the soap. I have no idea what caused this other than perhaps there was a weakness in the enamel itself which allowed the raw soap to get into.... IMO the pot is toast, I have always been taught that once the enamel chips, cracks etc that it needs to be disposed of....Maybe there is someone here that knows more about this, I just wanted to pipe in with my half penny (not worth much) opinion.

Cheers
Lindy

unfortunately, I think you'll need to dispose of both the soap and pan. There may have been a small crack in the enamel that was getting ready to give.

Since I was doing a tiny test batch (just 4 oz of oils) I decided to leave it in the crock pot & see what happened. There didn't appear to be any effect from the damaged enamel. It was, however, way too small of a batch for my large crock pot and towards the end, some of the soap started to burn.

I pulled the burnt bits out, added my EO and clay, and threw it in the mold.

No zap on the tongue test today, so I guess it worked!

I'm sold on the CPHP method....now I just need a new crock pot.
