Still trying to figure out HP. I had a fight on my hands to keep
the FO in the mixture. I think I'm adding the FO when it's too
hot. I HAVE to get a therrmometer so I can guage what the
heck I'm doing.

The first photo is "Mint Fudge" with Peak Peppermint Kiss.
It smells wonderful -- wanted a York Peppermint Patty all
day.

I tried a swirl top and screwed up royally.
Put tiny chips of colored soap to cover it.
Chips fell off and looked bad.
Ended up solving my problems with the crinkle cutter.

Learned something -- how to make brown color:
I didn't have brown color. I didn't want the stink and
grainy-texture of cocoa. I always buy red, yellow, blue so
I can mix my own colors. From my color notes it said:
brown = 3 parts red, 3 parts yellow & 2 parts blue
So I mixed it -- and it really does equal brown.

Next is sandalwood and I had another fight keeping the
FO into the mixture. Think I lost about 1 t. FO in the
process, but it smells strong.

Only 1 day old, but I took a bar of the HP Wild Mtn. Honey
soap to the tub to see if I can tell about SF.
The next night, I was going to use it again and it was 1/2 gone!
My husband has never used my soap (uses some Old Spice liquid
body wash).

Later I asked him, "Did you use my soap?"
"Yeah"
"What did you think about it?"
"It's soap."
"Come on, tell me something. Did you like it?"
"I guess"

"I guess" is a compliment from this guy. LOL

my HP bars tend to disappear faster in the shower when they are new. i have one bar that is still really hard and lasting but it has cured for over a month first.

Yeah, I realize HP needs to age a week or two, at least.
I wanted to see the SF so I could make more.
I "go easy" rubbing fresh bars of soap.
Hubby obvioulsy didn't "go easy" on it! LOL

Your soap looks great as always, :0)

I could eat a pile of peppermint patty's too..... LOL.

mmmmmmm.... Making me want a peppermint patty now! The soaps look terrific. :)

What temp do you think your hp should be before adding the fo? The book I looked at just mentioned "cooled down", but what exactly do ya suppose that means?

Goooooooooood question. Same with me...saw a lady on internet that said
"let it cool down". Now that I have a thermometer, I'll play with the temps
and see if I can figure it out. (next weekend)

I'm also wondering if (like other things that cook) soap has a certain
temperature it reaches when it's "done" -- You know? Like a candy
thermometer for soap?

Wouldn't that be cool?
A temp. when done.
A temp. to cool to before pouring.
Simple as pie -- but not so simple to figure out.

With my luck -- the temps depend on the FO, the recipe or
how one holds their mouth during the pour! LOL

I'll let you begin the experimenting!

Would be nice to have a ballpark temp to use. But, I'm sure you're right - fo, recipe, phase of the moon, security alert level, whether or not it's a good hair day, amount of water weight retention, etc. probably all have a role in coming up with a good "cooled down" temp!

ROFL ...........sooo true!

The thing is-- the HP soap gets thicker and dryer as it cools and then I find it's even more difficult to mix anything into it. Today I mixed the spices I was adding into a bit of OO .....I wasn't using any F/O so I didn't worry about temps, but cooler soap is so much harder to get into the molds! I wish we had a good answer on this...

Well, the answer may be:
more water
cooler temps

What spices are you using? Lots of them are "scratchy" in soap.

Yes, I'm not sure what this soap will be like. I divided the soap 2/3- 1/3 and added pumpkin to the larger part, and pumpkin pie spice to the rest. Hoepfully it won't be too scratchy since it's only in 1/3 of the soap...then I mixed it together a little bit in the pot and then into the mold.

This is the one I didn't have the F/O for so I tried infusing my OO with cracked whole spices...I'm sure the fragrance will be sutble at best, but we'll see!

edited to add: It's still quite warm in the mold and it smells like a spicy pumpkin muffin at the moment....or maybe that's the actual pumpkin muffins I made...LOL!
