Carebear, the strange thing is that all the "liquid" soap which I made from bars of my regular whipped soap resulted in gel, whether I used pectin or Xanthan Gum...................
............but I made some CP with a recipe which I knew would be sticky because of the high Castor content. I wanted to use this as the base for a shampoo. After a 6 week cure I grated up the required amount and added the water and Xanthan Gum, expecting a thickish gel.
Imagine my surprise when it remained very liquid, so I reheated and added more Xanthan Gum. Still liquid............to this day it has remained liquid and almost totally clear Amber, no seperation, so I seem to have stumbled on a way to make true liquid soap from bar soap. The base soap definitely has an impact on the final result.
When added to the thicker gel soap it produces a nice creamy and more fluid soap and reduces the "snotty" feel of the gel.
I still have the remaining bars from that batch, so perhaps I will repeat the experiment to see whether the result is the same clear liquid soap.
